Italian court sentenced Mullah Krekar to 12 years in prison

An Italian court sentenced Necmedin Faraj, known as Mullah Krekar , to 12 years in prison.

According to the Italian news channel "Rai News", the court sentenced Mullah Krekar to 12 years in prison on charges of terrorism.

The verdict follows accusations by the Italian authorities of the Kurdish cleric of involvement in the establishment of a terrorist network and planning of violence through people of European nationalities.

For his part, Krekar's lawyer denied all charges, saying he would appeal to the court's decision.

For its part, the Norwegian security service arrested Tuesday, "Mullah Krekar ", on the basis of an official arrest warrant issued against him after being sentenced by the Italian judiciary.

The Norwegian authorities said that "Mullah Krekar " was born in Iraq, was arrested and it is not clear whether he will be handed over to Italy or not."

The Norwegian security service added that "Krekar was arrested hours after his conviction by an Italian court for trying to overthrow the Kurdistan Regional Government, and sentenced him to 12 years in prison."
