The Iraqi Federal Court stops the Kurdistan Parliament elections works

The Federal Supreme Court in Iraq issued on Tuesday an order regarding the system for registering and approving candidate lists for the Kurdistan Parliament elections No. (7) of 2024.

The court stated in an official statement that it considered, today, 5/7/2024, the request submitted by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region/Iraq, including the issuance of an order in the case numbered (126/Federal/2024) until the case is decided.

According to the statement, the court decided to stop the implementation of Clause (Second) of Article (2) of the system for registering and approving candidate lists for the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections No. (7) of 2024, which stipulates: “Second: The Kurdistan Regional Parliament consists of (100) seats.” Distributed among the following electoral districts: - Erbil Governorate/ (34) seats - Sulaymaniyah Governorate/ (38) seats - Dohuk Governorate/ (25) seats - Halabja Governorate/ (3) seats.)) until the lawsuit is resolved in order to avoid The consequences of its implementation will be difficult to remedy in the future.
